Lakeside Chamber Music Workshop in Montsoreau, France, is designed for those who want to deepen their knowledge of chamber music repertoire while enjoying an idyllic setting rich in historical and gastronomic offerings.

Participants are expected to have instrumental skills at the intermediate level or above, and to have prior chamber music or orchestral experience. The workshops are generally limited to 12 participants, that is 3 quartets. Participants can register as a preformed group or individually; group registration is highly recommended. After enrollment is complete, a wait list will be established.

For cellist: LCM will arrange for the rental of one cello per quartet, at no extra charge. Other instruments can be rented, but there is an additional charge. Music stands will be provided.

PROGRAM
The date of the 2022 workshop is scheduled for August 22 through 26. Workshops begin on a Monday. Participants should arrive Sunday for an orientation picnic at the Panorama in Candes St Martin.

Each day of the workshop, participants will have either morning or afternoon coaching sessions; this allows for practice time and time to explore the area.

Daily activities include two (2) thirty-minute coaching sessions. On Thursday afternoon, there will be a final concert at which each quartet performs what they have been working on that week.

LOCATION
The workshop is located Montsoreau, which is in the heart of Loire Valley, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. Montsoreau is next to Candes St. Martin and Fontevraud Abbey

The Loire Valley is known for the quality of its architectural heritage, which can be seen in the nearby historic towns of Chinon and Saumur; for the outstanding cultural landscape along the river; and for its cultural monuments, including chateaus, that illustrate the ideals of the Renaissance and the Age of Enlightment.

EXPLORING
We recommend exploring the wineries of the Loire Valley including those in Chinon and Bourgueil. In addition to wineries, we highly recommended a visit to Fontevraud Abbaye, which is only 5 minutes away. Famous nearby chateaus include Montreuil Bellay, Villandry with its famous gardens, and D'Usse, of sleeping beauty fame. We are happy to recommend other excursion options, including kayaking and biking. These are all optional and participants are free to organize their own sight-seeing adventures or simply relax at the many local cafes sipping tea or wine.

Market days in the area are from 9.00am to 1pm: Sunday in Montsoreau, Tuesday in Bourgueil, and Wednesday in Chinon.

From Charles De Gaulle Airport (Paris), we recommend booking a high-speed TGV train to Saint-Pierre-des-Corps (the TGV station for Tours). From central Paris, take high-speed train from the Montparnasse station. After arriving at Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, it is highly-recommend to rent a car  train. Most major car rental agencies have offices at the train plaza. The drive from the station to the workshop is approximately 45 minutes. We recommend renting through AutoEurope, a broker, which generally has better pricing.
